WE BEAT FERRIS BUELLER BY 20 YEARS !!

CLASS "TRIP" CHRISTMAS 1966

Somme of you will remember the Student Council Trip of  December 1966.
We were the Class Elite.
We were the Student Leaders.
We were the Best of the Best.
How did this get so weird?
First, the School was in error.
There was no official prohibition notice to participants prior or during the event.
Exploring New York City 5th Avenue and Rockefeller Center is exceedingly dangerous under these circumstances.
We were 17 going on College and LIFE.
Should we not have taken such Liberty during this class activity?
We Had Implied Teenage License to Have FUN.
It was 1966.
It Was CHRISTMAS.
New York City at Christmas Time is a WINTER WONDERLAND.
Even if you do visit St.Patrick's Cathedral on the way to TIFFANY'S.
We did pray for ourselves by the way.
That is probably why it all went safely.
I am sure the School makes everyone sign a written "Compliance Statement" now.
We had none.
It was a tremendous legal loophole for us. There was no administrative rule.
The event was off school grounds.  There was no written rule.
There were no verbal warnings prior to or during the event.
They had NO JURISDICTION.
It was even a DIFFERENT STATE!!
It was a good lesson to everyone.
It was a great TRIP.
It was Christmas Time 1966.
We did all things in compliance with all laws, morals and conventions.
(except for unwritten non-verbal school rules)
Honest.
It was not until days later that the "Administration" went "BALLISTIC".
Like an Apollo 11 Saturn 5 Rocket Ballistic.
BOOM!  BADA BOOM!
The criticism was arbitrary and capricious.
It was a classic Adult Knee Jerk Reaction compounded by Mindless Hysteria with fear of juvenile delinquency.
We are fortunate they did not direct us to see Social Workers and Shrinks.
They all needed a STIFF DRINK OF SCOTCH themselves.
It was Christmas Time!
5th Avenue, Rocky Center, Broadway and Radio City Rockettes at Christmas Time at 17 years Old and totally UNSUPERVISED
is EXCELLENT DUDES!!
(Except back then we used the terminology of "Groovy.")
Minors cannot disobey a rule of which they are not aware.
William Shakespeare, "The Tempest", Act 3, Scene 1
God, Genesis, Chapter 2, Verse 17.
Exoneration by exception is beautiful thing.
IT WAS FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF FOR ALL OF US.
AND TWENTY YEARS BEFORE FERRIS DID IT!
("Ferris Bueller's Day Off"(1986) Matthew Broderick, Mia Sara.)
Also: THE BEASTIE BOYS, Album, "LICENSE TO ILL"(1986) "You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party."
Of course it helps if you can do it with your Best Girlfriend too.
Thanks for the GREAT TEENAGE MEMORIES!
DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS.
WE ARE PROFESSIONALS.

WAR STORIES

We are starting to get the beginnings of information on the Class of 1967.

We have lost several members as Battlefield Casualties during the Eight Years War of 1965-1973 in Southeast Asia (Viet Nam).

Several of our Alumni are Combat Veterans in all Military Branches.

We have an Air Force Veteran who participated in Close Ground Support Operations over the South of the Battle Area. He is a Retired Port Authority Detective and Widower who was Military Police and Weapons Officer on the Famous C-130 Gun Ship known as "Puff the Magic Dragon."

We have other Retired Police who were Marines and Air Force.

We have a Marine Veteran of the Battle of Hue. This is Famous now in Marine History.

If you are a class member you probably already know these fine folks. We will withhold all names until such time as it becomes safe to release the names.
